An Italian tradition - gifting a rooster pitcher, ideally, as a housewarming or wedding gift, bestows 'good fortune' upon the home.  Available in 3 colors and 3 sizes; all handpainted by G&P Ceramics in Deruta, Italy.

Made of majolica; a low-heat, twice-fired ceramic that is then handpainted with a tin oxide glaze which allows for the classic bright white background and bright saturated colors.

Each piece is hand-painted - variations will occur.

Legend of the Rooster Pitcher
Legend says during the 15th century in the Republic of Florence, the powerful Medici family held a grand feast for the peasants.

On the evening of the feast, while everyone was asleep, a rival family sent assassins to kill a leading member of the Medici family. The assassination attempt failed when the roosters in the yards in and around the village started cackling, waking the guards in time to catch the would-be assassins.

The Medici family commissioned artisans to create ceramic pitchers of the feathered guardians which they then presented to the peasants for good luck.
